In practice, voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction trading plays a positive role in improving the carbon emission trading mechanism, promoting the development of renewable energy projects such as wind power, hydropower, and photovoltaic, and supporting large-scale activities in carbon neutrality. The voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction trading mechanism has recorded a total of 200 emission reduction methodologies, 9 trading institutions, 12 approval and certification institutions, 1315 emission reduction projects, and 454 batches of emission reduction projects with approximately 78 million tons. By the end of 2019, the cumulative trading volume of nationally certified emission reductions was about 207 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, with a trading volume of about 1.64 billion yuan. Of the 78 million tons of emission reductions recorded, about 19.8 million tons were used for offsetting performance in the pilot carbon market, about 540000 tons were voluntarily written off to help companies fulfill their social responsibilities, and the rest were held by project owners and others.
